How to build an SEO business case that gets approved

A step-by-step walkthrough: from keyword list to a signed budget, using the Bulk SEO Forecast.

SEO budgets die in meetings, not in spreadsheets. This guide turns a keyword list into a business case a CFO will sign — using the Bulk SEO Forecast.

Step 1 — Assemble the portfolio honestly

Export 20–200 keywords from Search Console or your keyword tool: query, monthly volume, current position, realistic target position, CPC. Import the CSV directly into the forecaster — it maps columns for you and flags bad rows instead of silently dropping them. Resist the urge to include vanity keywords you will never rank for; they inflate the case and destroy your credibility later.

Step 2 — Price the program

Enter the true all-in monthly cost. If you do not know it, build it first in the SEO Budget Planner and carry the total over.

Step 3 — Read the conservative case first

Open the forecast and look at the Conservative scenario before anything else. If the conservative case still breaks even inside your horizon, you have a robust proposal. If only the aggressive case works, you do not have a business case — you have a hope.

Step 4 — Present three numbers

Decision-makers remember three numbers: investment (total cost over the horizon), breakeven month (conservative case), and base-case ROI. Put them on one slide, link the live forecast underneath, and let anyone audit the math. Transparency is the persuasion.

Step 5 — Revisit quarterly

A business case is a living document. Every quarter, replace forecast ranks with actual Search Console positions and re-run. The gap between forecast and reality is the most valuable SEO report you will ever produce.
